Alex Salmond was successfully elected as MSP for Banff and Buchan and will be the next First Minister of Scotland.  The SNP successfully elected 47 MSP's, which is one more than Labour's 46 MSP's in the Scottish Parliament, all the SNP members are all so delighted - many waiting for this day for more than 40 years.  Those who joined in the 1940's can remember what they went through and to reach this day with freedom in sight for Scotland to become all it can be, wealthy and healthy is a dream coming true.  Scotland may in the next decade be in an economic position to join the top 3 richest countries in the world, alongwith Norway and Ireland.

Alex Salmond has served as an MP since 1987. In 1980, Alex joined the Royal Bank of Scotland, for whom he worked for seven years, first as an Assistant Economist, then as the Oil Economist and latterly as Royal Bank Economist. He has recently taken up a post as Visiting Professor of Economics at Strathclyde University.
